The International Journal of Forecasting publishes high-quality articles on all aspects of energy forecasting. One of its goals is to standardise the field and bridge the gap between theory and practice in order to make forecasts useful and relevant for decision-makers and policymakers

The topic of his doctorate: Data Science Methods for Forecasting in Energy and Economics.

The dissertation deals with various approaches to forecasting energy market data. A particular focus was on probabilistic methods for combining forecasts.

As part of the scholarship, Paul will spend a period abroad at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. There he will conduct research at the School of Mathematics and Statistics under the supervision of Prof. Jethro Browell . His research project deals with forecasting models for electricity prices, in particular with the development of new approaches for combining fundamental and data-driven models, probabilistic forecasts, as well as the modeling of import and export flows and coupled electricity markets.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)  uses public funds to promote international academic co-operation, in particular the exchange of students and academics. DAAD scholarships are awarded on the basis of the decision of an independent commission.

The entire chair is delighted for Paul to receive this scholarship and wishes him an enjoyable and productive stay abroad.
